Jessie McGrath, MS, LMHC

I am a licensed mental health counselor  in Washington State (No. LH60546224). I obtained my Master of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling from Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA. I have lived in the Pacific Northwest all of my life and can think of no finer place to call home.

Honesty, effective communication, compassion, and curiosity are instilled in my work as a therapist. I consider it a great privilege to be invited into the lives and relationships of my clients. Cultivating the willingness to be vulnerable and open to change can be a great challenge; I admire your display of willingness by starting to look for a therapist and wish you well on your journey wherever it may lead.

Approach

Despite the myriad of ways disorder and dissatisfaction may manifest in our lives, feeling connected and supported is crucial in moving towards a satisfying life. My goal as a therapist is to meet you where you currently are so that you are no longer alone and help you decide how to take the next steps towards the life you want. There are many styles and modalities of therapy and I do not believe in a 'one-size fits all' approach. Every person is different and every person’s experience of the world, themselves, and their relationships is unique. My interest lies in getting to know each of my clients and using their story to inform the best way to proceed in moving towards their goals. I believe that talk-therapy can be incredibly helpful and healing, especially on the path of self-acceptance and discovery. I also believe that some challenges, such as chronic chaos or overwhelm, are better tackled with more skilled-based coaching on time management, organization, and other important life skills. Whether you are more interested in traditional talk-therapy or hands-on coaching, my hope is that our work together can create greater self-awareness that will lead towards holistic health and living a life you enjoy.

Experience

I have ten years of clinical experience, including three years working with adults and adolescents who struggle with eating disorders at Eating Recovery Center of Washington (ERC). During my time at ERC I specialized in working with individuals who struggled with anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, and other food related issues. My therapeutic expertise lies to a great extent in relational work by helping people connect with others and form a stronger sense of self. This type of work is often most helpful for those struggling with anxiety, depression, relational issues, life transitions, grief, trauma, communication difficulties, eating disorders and other food related issues, sexual orientation and gender identity development, and attachment difficulties.

I also specialize in parenting issues and coaching. I also work with women struggling with fertility, pregnancy loss, and postpartum issues.
