Morgan McGrath, MA, LICSW

I am a licensed clinical social worker with the State of Washington (No. LW60622059). My nine years of clinical experience includes providing therapy to adults, adolescents, couples, and families. I have a Master of Social Work degree from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts and a Master of Arts degree in Conflict Transformation from SIT Graduate Institute in Brattleboro, Vermont.

My training and experience includes treating individuals in recovery from eating disorders, addiction, and all manner of traumas. I also specialize in providing therapy for therapists and others in the helping and healing fields.  I was a therapist for four years with Eating Recovery Center of Washington and for two years at the Wardenburg Health Center at the University of Colorado, Boulder before moving into private practice in 2016.

Approach

My approach in session is direct and active. I am curious by nature and find that most patients appreciate my honesty, humor, and willingness to ask questions, speak openly, and give direct feedback.  I have an engaging style that balances my training and expertise with the reality that we are two (or several) people sitting together having a conversation. I greatly enjoy the work that I get to do with clients and look forward to meeting you.

Experience and Training

I have trained in a number of therapeutic approaches which inform my current practice.  My fellowship at the University of Colorado involved intensive training in group therapy, co-occurring mental-health and substance use treatment, and finding healing after trauma. I received further postgraduate training in Trauma Dynamics Somatic Therapy at the Love and Trauma Center and Attachment Therapy at The Boulder Institute for Psychotherapy and Research. I am fortunate to have worked closely with, and been supervised by, a number of skilled counselors who have been crucial in my development as a therapist. In addition I have extensive experience working with queer and transgender folks and those recovering from relational and sexual traumas.  I also consider it a good practice to maintain a supportive network of friends and colleagues.  I believe it is a great privilege to be a therapist and this perspective is integral to my work.  Further areas of interest include working for social justice, dismantling patriarchy and white supremacy, and emphasizing the importance of community and connection in healing.

Individual Counseling

I work with clients aged thirteen and older. It is important to me that I am a good fit for my clients so I can be of use to you as you find ways to move towards the life you desire. To that end I encourage and practice honesty, vulnerability, and openness so we can sort through what it is which prevents you from fully enjoying your life.

Couples Counseling

My approach toward couples counseling begins with the understanding that it is challenging to be in relationship, particularly without enough support. Our work is to discover what is preventing you from being close to your partner or spouse in the way you would like and to help the two of you come to remember what you most like about one another and to make your relationship more supportive and loving.

Family Counseling

Having multiple family members in therapy at once is often an illuminating and productive experience for the entire family. It allows your family the opportunity to gain a greater awareness of how each member plays an important role and provides the guidance to heal wounds and find healthier ways to communicate and appreciate each other.
